Introduction
A watch tells time. A carburetor mixes fuel and air. The human liver breaks down toxins in the body. Similarly, genuine Christian faith shows up in words and actions that are pleasing to God and good for others.
With 59 commandments packed into 108 verses, James is an early call for genuine faith that leads to integrity, with our professed beliefs showing up in real actions. Yet our integrity is far from perfect. So what’s our hope? The climax of James tells us:
“[God] gives more grace. Therefore it says, ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’”
