Close or Connected

Mar 8, 2026    Mark South

In this sermon on John 15:1-17, Pastor Mark contrasts being merely close to Jesus with being truly connected to him, arguing that genuine discipleship is seen not in outward proximity or religious activity but in abiding union with Christ as the true vine. Drawing on John 6:60, 66 and John 8:30-31, 37, he shows that people can appear near Jesus and still remain disconnected, while those who truly abide in Christ receive his life, endure the Father's pruning, bear fruit that comes from his grace rather than performance, let his word live deeply within them, obey from the security of his love, and extend his honor to others as friends chosen and appointed by the divine benefactor who laid down his life for them.
