Whoever Loves Their Life
In this sermon on John 12:20-50, Pastor Mark teaches that seeing Jesus truly means following him in the way of the seed that dies to bear fruit: losing our lives in this world so we may keep them for eternal life. Moving through Jesus' words about his coming cross, he answers the question "How do I hate my life in this world?" with five movements: pray "Father, glorify your name" (John 12:27-29), remember that our self-glory helped crucify Christ (John 12:30-33; Colossians 2:15; Hebrews 2:14; John 3:19), keep believing so we become sons of light (John 12:34-36), seek God's glory over human approval (John 12:36-43), and receive both the messenger and message of Jesus (John 12:44-50). The call is to stop hardening our hearts, trust Christ publicly, and surrender to God's purposes now.
