Standing in the Chaos of History
Daniel 7 gives God's people a vision for standing firm in the chaos of history. As Daniel sees four beastly kingdoms rising from the sea, the sermon traces how Scripture uses the waters as an image of disorder, judgment, and fear, while showing that man-made kingdoms are only temporary attempts at "micro heaven." In contrast, the saints receive an everlasting kingdom from the Most High, one finally given to the Son of Man, Jesus Christ. Even though evil speaks lies against God, wears out the saints, and tries to redefine reality, its power is limited by the Ancient of Days. The call is to stop building false heavens, hold fast to Christ, serve and obey him today, and hide the promise of his forever kingdom in our hearts.
